Pyramide Solitaire

Pyramide strategy

In brief

You win at Pyramide by freeing the cards in the middle of the pyramid before running out of partners. Each value has only four partners in the deck: when a card has two free partners, choose the one that frees something else. These are tips, not rules.

Clear the bottom of the pyramid

At the start, only the 7 bottom cards are free. Each card in row 6 must wait for both its neighbors below to be removed. Look for pairs that free two cards at once, and start with the Kings: a free King is removed on its own, at no cost, revealing what it covered.

Choose the right partner

Each value has four possible partners in the deck, one of each suit. When a card has two free partners, one of them may be useful later. In deal PY1-N-AAAAAAS, on move 2, the bottom 10♣ can be removed with either 3♥ or 3♠. The winning game chooses 3♠, which covered 10♦, and keeps 3♥: on move 7, that very 3♥ removes 10♦.

Stock: 23 cards; waste: 7 of diamonds. Row 1: jack of diamonds; row 2: 6 of clubs, 7 of hearts; row 3: ace of spades, 4 of diamonds, queen of spades; row 4: 5 of hearts, 3 of diamonds, 6 of hearts, 8 of spades; row 5: king of hearts, king of clubs, ace of diamonds, king of spades, 9 of clubs; row 6: queen of clubs, 2 of clubs, 8 of diamonds, 10 of diamonds, 10 of spades, jack of spades; row 7: 7 of clubs, 10 of clubs, 3 of hearts, 4 of hearts, 3 of spades, 7 of spades.

Deal PY1-N-AAAAAAS after 1 move: 10♣ has two free partners, 3♥ and 3♠; 10♦ waits beneath 3♠.

Use the waste

The top card of the waste is one more free card. In the winning game on the Examples page, the app draws 13 times and 8 pairs use the waste. Before drawing, check whether the waste card has a partner in the pyramid: the next card will cover it.

Recycle without losing track

The app allows unlimited passes through the stock in the same order: a card you missed returns on the next pass. Recycling costs no points, but each pass adds moves. When an entire pass goes by without removing a card, the deal is often lost: you then need to undo or start a new game.

Finish the pyramid

Once the middle is open, everything follows: in the game on the Examples page, moves 22 through 33 are all removals, clearing 18 cards without a single draw.

Undo to experiment

The app keeps the last 100 actions. Undo lets you try a card’s other partner or go back to before an unhelpful pass through the stock. The move counter does not go down.
